Acoustical Ceiling Texture – asbestos popcorn ceilings in arizona

    Posted: Sunday, February 21st, 2010

    Acoustical Ceiling Texture (popcorn ceilings)

You have just bought an older home or you have lived in a pre 90’s home for a while and your thinking about removing those outdated, ugly popcorn ceilings. You should have the “popcorn” texture properly sampled & tested for asbestos by a EPA/AHERA certified building inspector and the samples need to analyzed at a certified NVLAP laboratory for PLM analysis BEFORE you disturb or start the removal process.

Most people have the perception and assume that if their home was built in the late 70’s or 80’s that asbestos is probably not present in the popcorn texture. This assumption is wrong and could lead to a very expensive decontamination of the house and contents if the material is found to contain asbestos after the removal process has begun.

When it comes to asbestos and your health and the health of your family, it is always better to be safe than sorry – Have it Tested

Call Jason at Envision3 Group today at (602) 492-MOLD for a free estimate on asbestos testing.

Another case of asbestos worry – Philadelphia Housing Authority

LAST SEPTEMBER, Philadelphia Housing Authority plumbers ripped open Channel Saunders’ kitchen wall at the Hill Creek Apartments in Crescentville and removed leaky pipes.

The pipes were covered in a white gauzelike material, Saunders said. When the workers finished, they dumped the rusted pipes on her front patio, she said.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie might appeal seven asbestos-removal violations stemming from campus projects in 2009.

The violations were issued by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, which originally charged the university with 50 counts of asbestos violations after state inspections of UW-Stout projects in May and June. The department revised its inspection report from the projects and released the shorter list of citations Wednesday.

A pdf page outlining the asbestos NESHAP regulations for contractors in Arizona

    Renovations — Facilities undergoing renovations
must submit a NESHAPs notification if greater than

    Threshold amounts are:
    • 260 linear feet (for materials on pipes)
