Home inspector’s are typically not experienced to inspect for mold

Posted: Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Home inspector’s are typically not experienced to inspect for mold. You should hire a true third party mold/indoor air quality testing firm in addition to your home inspector when buying a home.

Cusimano is suing two home-inspection companies for $3 million, claiming neither Bradley Beyer of Amerispec Heritage Home Inspection Services nor Joseph Schmitt & Partners Consulting Engineers caught the problem.

Symptoms of Fungal Exposure (Mycotoxicosis)

Posted: Monday, July 12th, 2010

Mold toxicity is often the end result with constant exposure to mold of a toxic substance.  A common misconception among allergists who are untrained in this type of toxicity levels in humans, which is technically not their area of expertise unless they have trained specifically in environmental medicine with their  background in immunology, is to do general allergen testing.  Most tests usually result in an unequivocal result, a 2+ or less.  This induces some physicians to order allergy shots, regardless.  These shots are absolutely worthless (and could possibly be harmful) to a person who has been heavily exposed to these mycotoxins as they are already in a state of toxicity.  If anything, this could exacerbate the problem.  Because many doctors are not trained in this field, they may try to “guess” at a diagnosis.

Mold and Allergies: 10 Ways to Reduce Symptoms

Posted: Saturday, February 20th, 2010

If you have allergy symptoms year-round — or if they get worse in damp weather — you may be allergic to mold. While people with pollen allergies tend to have seasonal symptoms, mold allergies can flare all year long. Indoor mold can be a problem in winter months, because mold will grow in your house where there is enough moisture — whether it’s on a basement wall, in your crawl space, a damp carpet, or behind the bathroom tile.

You may not even realize the mold is there — but if you’re sensitive you’ll react with coughing, wheezing, stuffy nose, or irritated eyes.

Couple does battle with builder over leaks, mold

Posted: Sunday, February 7th, 2010

MILFORD – The stain on the bedroom carpet should have been a tip-off.

Debra and Ron Shusterman noticed the six-inch long brown spot during a walk-through of their new home in May 2008.

But the house at 170 Badger Hill Drive had served as a model for the recent phase of the Badger Hill development, and everyone thought it was just a coffee or soda stain.

Four months after the couple moved in, heavy rain from a nor’easter sent water into the house, damaging and discoloring the ceiling and wall of the second-floor bedroom, right near the carpet stain, indicating it was not spilled coffee or soda but the result of a leak.
